Torture Ruling in the UK
Overnight, the Court of Appeal in the UK has ruled that "information relating to torture allegations in the case of former Guantanamo detainee Binyam Mohamed" should be disclosed, reports The Independent. This is all about "intelligence information" - that is, the information that the US sent to the British security services about the treatment of Binyam. You cannot get more damning than that.
The UK government wanted the details to be blocked because of the impact on the US - who it should be pointed out are the ones at the centre of the allegations.
Lord Judge said:"We are no longer dealing with the allegations of torture and ill-treatment; they have been established in the judgment of the court, publicly revealed by the judicial processes within the USA itself."
The ruling says that the reported treatment "could readily be contended to be at the very least cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment of Binyam Mohamed by the United States authorities".
As we keep saying (and other just go la-la-la), the truth will come out. And those responsible should be held accountable for their actions. That day is coming.
